An ENT specialist will be assigned to learn about your current condition and medical history. Major and minor surgeries that involve certain levels of pain are mostly performed under anesthetics at safe levels. For advanced procedures, the patient is completely sedated to eradicate pain. Nosebleeds are a very common condition but a sudden or infrequent nosebleed is a serious problem. The most common cause of nosebleed is dry air. Dry climate can dry out the nasal membranes (tissues inside the nose). Other common causes include allergic reaction, repeated sneezing, upper respiratory infection, bleeding disorders, blood clotting disorders, etc.

There is a total of seven types of hearing tests:

  • Pure tone testing

  • Bone Conduction testing

  • Speech testing

  • Otoacoustic Emissions (OAEs)

There are three most common ENT procedures:

  • Tonsillectomy and Adenoidectomy (tonsils): Adenoidectomy is performed to remove the adenoids, small lumps located close to the nasal cavity. Tonsillectomy is performed to remove the tonsils when the upper airway is partially or completely blocked by the tonsils.

  • Myringotomy with Tube Insertion (ear tubes): In this procedure, a tube is inserted inside an ear to prevent recurrent infections.

  • Functional Endoscopic Sinus Surgery (FESS): This procedure is performed to remove any blockage in the sinus area or to open the sinus openings for easier drainage.

  • Septoplasty: This procedure is performed to straighten the nasal septum.

The common causes of nasal obstruction are:

  • Cold or flu

  • Sinus infection

  • Allergies

  • Dry air

  • Decongestion nasal spray overuse

  • Medicines like high-pressure drugs

Sinusitis is the condition in which the spaces inside the nose and head are swollen and inflamed. The common causes of sinusitis include nasal polyps, deviated nasal septum, sore throat, pain, tenderness around eyes, cheeks, nose, a cough that might worsen in the night, etc.

Cochlear implant surgery is done when people have severe hearing loss or when hearing aids do not provide the clarity of sound needed to understand speech. A cochlear implant is a small electrical device that electrically stimulates the nerve for hearing.

Most patients with chronic sinus don’t need surgery. A few lifestyle changes and medicines can keep your symptoms under control. But if the symptoms get worse then surgery is the best alternative.

Tonsillectomy is a surgical procedure to remove the tonsils due to tonsillitis. The most common method of performing Tonsillectomy is cold knife dissection. In this procedure, the surgeon removes the tonsils with a scalpel. Another method is cauterization in which burns away the tissue during the procedure.
