Chemotherapy

Cancer is a life-threatening condition and requires early medical management to improve survival rates and quality of life in patients. The current management of cancer involves surgery, radiation therapy and chemotherapy. These treatments are either used alone or in combination with one another depending on the type and stage of cancer and various patient factor such as age, co-morbidities, etc.

Day Care facility for Chemotherapy:

  • Chemotherapy is a type of cancer treatment in which drugs are used to prevent the multiplication of the cancer cells and make the patient cancer-free.

  • The chemotherapy daycare centre caters to wellness of cancer patients who are on short infusion therapies defined as less than 6 hrs of infusion time, and do not require night hospitalization. Such patients are given treatment in the daycare centre during the day time so that patient can go home the same day after their therapy.  Cancer patients are treated by an experienced team of cancer chemotherapy specialists in Delhi and nurses in the daycare. Chemotherapy at daycare is very economical and avoids the hospitalization charges. Patients can avoid waiting for a hospital appointment or standing in the long queue for admission.

The following therapies are routinely done in the daycare and IPD facility-

  1. Chemotherapy (In both curative and palliative setting).- the treatment of disease by the use of Cytotoxic drugs is chemotherapy, especially the treatment of cancer by cytotoxic and other drugs.

  2. Immunotherapy- a type of cancer treatment that helps your immune system fight cancer. The immune system helps your body fight infections and other diseases. It is made up of white blood cells and organs and tissues of the lymph system. Immunotherapy is a type of biological therapy which releases the brakes from the cells of the immune ( which were subdued by the cancer cells and unleashes their potential to destroy tumor cells. The side effect profile is peculiar but overall is better than most chemotherapy due to the lesser percentage of severe side effects.

  3. Targeted therapies (both tablets and Injections)- Targeted therapy is a cancer treatment that uses drugs. But it is different from traditional chemotherapy, which also uses drugs to treat cancer. Targeted therapy works by targeting cancer's specific genes, proteins, or the tissue environment that contributes to cancer growth and survival. Like Immunotherapy, it has lesser Side effects as compared to Immunotherapy.

  4. Metronomic therapy (MT) refers to repetitive, low doses of chemotherapy drugs. MT exerts an effect not only on tumour cells but also on their microenvironment. In particular, the low-dose schedule compromises the repairing process of endothelial cells, leading to an anti-angiogenic effect.

  5. Endocrine therapy (both tablets and Injections) Hormone therapy, also called endocrine therapy, adds, blocks, or removes those chemicals to treat the disease. There are two types of hormone therapy for breast cancer: Drugs that stop estrogen and progesterone from helping breast cancer cells grow. Drugs or surgery to keep the ovaries from making the hormones. Likewise in males, endocrine therapy is majorly used in prostate cancer treatment

  6. PICC Line insertions and Chemo-ports usage- Peripheral inserted central venous catheters and chemosis are useful central lines for delivery of iv cancer therapies. These are regularly placed in a daycare setting

  7. Comprehensive Palliative care. We at medical oncology department believe that the way “to Beat cancer is Small steps every day.” And therefore look into the details of Cancer pain or discomfort and work in close liaison with the department of palliative medicine
