BAL treatment in Hebbal, Bangalore

The purpose of BAL treatment in Hebbal, Bangalore is to examine the lungs and air passages of the body. The procedure is usually performed by a doctor who specialises in lung disorders. In bronchoscopy, a thin tube is passed through your nose or mouth, down your throat, and into your lungs.

Prior to the procedure

Place your arms at your sides while sitting or lying on a table. The healthcare team will monitor your heart rate, blood pressure, and oxygen levels during the procedure. An IV sedative can help you relax. While you may feel sleepy, you will still be awake, breathing on your own, and able to answer your doctor's questions. Usually, sedative medications result in a very limited memory of the bronchoscopy procedure after it has been completed.

A numbing medication called anaesthetic will be sprayed into the throat during the procedure. Occasionally, an anaesthetic gel may be used to anaesthetise the nose. During bronchoscopy, these medications numb the throat, reducing gagging and coughing. The medicine may initially taste unpleasant, but this will soon cease to be the case.

During the procedure

Bronchoscopy uses a bronchoscope. Your physician can also view pictures on a monitor using the bronchoscope with a light and a very small camera at its tip. Bronchoscopes slowly advance down the back of your throat, through the vocal cords, and into the lungs. Despite feeling uncomfortable, it shouldn't hurt. During your treatment, your healthcare team strives to make you as comfortable as possible. Tissue and fluid samples can be collected, and procedures can be performed using the bronchoscope. Your doctor may ask if you are experiencing chest, back, or shoulder pain. Pain should not be an issue.

Following the procedure

Several hours after a bronchoscopy, you will be monitored. You may experience numbness in your mouth and throat for a few hours following the procedure. Until the numbness subsides, you cannot eat or drink, and doing so prevents food and liquids from entering your lungs and airways. Drink something once your mouth and throat are no longer numb, and you can swallow and cough normally.

Drink water slowly. You may eat soft foods such as soups and applesauce in the following days. If you would like to add other foods, please do so. You may experience sore throats, hoarseness, coughing, and muscle pains, and this is a normal feeling. Take throat lozenges to relieve discomfort and gargle with warm water. You should ensure that all numbness has been removed before gargling or sucking.

Biopsies

During a biopsy, cells, tissue, fluids, or growths are taken out for analysis. Any part of your body can be sampled. Upon receipt, it is sent to a testing facility for testing and is evaluated under a microscope.

What is the procedure for performing a biopsy?

The method of performing a biopsy depends on where the cell or tissue sample is taken,

Biopsies of the skin

  • Skin cells are scraped away with a razor in a shave biopsy. It is often employed to collect a portion of skin growth, soreness, or mole.

  • Punch biopsy involves punching a hole in the skin to remove a deep-seated lesion. It may be necessary to stitch the wound.

  • A skin biopsy involves the removal of part or all of a lesion to diagnose or treat it. A biopsy is performed with scalpels. Stitches will be necessary.

Other biopsy types

  • A needle biopsy is a CT scan or ultrasound that may guide the needle used to remove tissue through the skin. Syringes with aspiration needles. It removes a small sample of tissue from a tumour. For larger samples of tissue, a core needle biopsy is used. This method is commonly used to check breast biopsies.

  • An endoscope or laparoscope is used for endoscopic or laparoscopic biopsies. In both cases, a small cut is made in your skin, and an instrument is inserted. The endoscope is a thin, flexible tube equipped with a camera and a cutting tool for removing the specimen. There is a slight difference between a laparoscope and an endoscope.

  • Incisional or excisional biopsy: In this type of biopsy, a surgeon makes an incision in your body and removes the entire tumour or a portion of the tumour for testing or treatment.

  • A perioperative biopsy is performed while you are undergoing another procedure. As soon as your tissue is removed, it will be tested. The results will be available soon after the procedure, so treatment can begin immediately.

  • A bone marrow biopsy aims to look closely at your blood to rule out specific bone marrow disorders or cancers.

Broncho-Alveolar Lavage (BAL)

It is sometimes necessary to perform a Broncho-alveolar Lavage (BAL) procedure during bronchoscopy to clear the lungs. As well as being called Bronchoalveolar washing, it is also known as Broncho-alveolar washing. In order to collect a sample of the lung for testing, the BAL is used to collect a sample from the lungs. In order to clean the airways and obtain a sample of fluid, saline solution is injected through the bronchoscope to clean the airways. An intrabronchial BAL is used to collect tissue for examination during a bronchoscopy. With the help of these tests, a variety of disorders of the lungs can be diagnosed, including the following,

  • Infections caused by bacteria such as tuberculosis and bacterial pneumonia

  • The existence of fungi

  • Cancer of the lungs

The steps listed below are performed during a BAL,

  • Your healthcare provider will inject a small amount of saline through the bronchoscope.

  • After washing the airways, saline is sucked into the bronchoscope.

  • A laboratory will test the saline solution for cells and other elements, such as bacteria.
