In-Vitro fertilisation treatment in Hebbal, Bangalore

In-Vitro fertilisation treatment in Hebbal, Bangalore is the process of fertilising an egg outside the body in a laboratory. This is usually done when there is a problem with the woman's fallopian tubes or the man's low sperm count. The egg and sperm are placed together in a dish and left for fertilisation to occur. Once fertilises the egg, it is implanted into the woman's uterus.

Pre-Procedure

Before-Vitro fertilisation (IVF), it is recommended that patients consult with a fertility specialist to discuss the potential risks and benefits associated with the procedure. The specialist will also perform a physical examination and order various tests, including blood work and an ultrasound, to evaluate the patient's overall health and to determine if IVF is the best treatment option. Once it is determined that the patient is suitable for IVF, the next step is to begin the ovarian stimulation process.

Procedure

In vitro fertilisation (IVF) is a process where an egg is combined with sperm outside the body in vitro. The process involves monitoring and stimulating a woman's ovulatory process, removing an ovum or ova (egg or eggs) from the woman's ovaries, and letting sperm fertilise them in a liquid in a laboratory. The fertilised egg (zygote) is then transferred to the patient's uterus to establish a successful pregnancy.

The steps in the IVF process are as follows,

  1. Ovulation induction: Medications are given to the woman to stimulate egg production.

  1. Egg retrieval: The eggs are retrieved from the woman's ovaries using a needle.

  1. Fertilisation: The eggs are combined with sperm in a laboratory.

  1. Embryo transfer: The embryos are transferred to the woman's uterus.

  1. Pregnancy test: A pregnancy test is done two weeks after the embryo transfer.

IVF is a primary treatment for infertility when other methods of assisted reproductive technology have failed. The procedure can be costly and is not always successful. IVF is the most common and effective type of assisted reproductive technology. It is often used when a woman's Fallopian tubes are blocked or when a man produces too few sperm. IVF can also be used to conceive more than one child at a time, such as twins or triplets, by transferring more than one fertilised egg back into the woman's uterus.

Post-Procedure

After the egg retrieval procedure, the eggs are fertilised with sperm in a laboratory. This is done by adding sperm to the eggs in a culture dish and letting them fertilise overnight. The next day, the fertilised eggs (embryos) are transferred to the woman’s uterus through the cervix. The transfer is usually done using a thin, flexible tube (catheter). The doctor performing the procedure will use an ultrasound scan to guide the catheter through the cervix into the uterus. Once the catheter is in the correct position, the embryos are injected into the uterine cavity. Embryo transfer is usually done 3-5 days after egg retrieval when the embryos have developed to the blastocyst stage.

After the transfer, the woman can go home and rest for the rest of the day. She will need to take it easy for the next few days and will be advised to take painkillers if she experiences discomfort. Around two weeks after the transfer, the woman will have a blood test to check if she is pregnant.
