Laparoendoscopy

Laparoendoscopic Single Site Surgery in Bangalore

A cutting-edge surgical technique known as laparoendoscopic single site (or LESS) surgery enables the removal of damaged organs through a small, single skin incision.

This contrasts with more invasive surgical procedures like multi-incision laparoscopic or open surgery. This single incision can frequently be concealed inside the belly button, making the procedure less invasive and leaving the patient with a scar that is often hardly perceptible and significantly less disfiguring.

Single-port laparoscopy

Recent advancement in laparoendoscopy treatment in Hebbal, Bangalore is single-port laparoscopy. It is a minimally invasive surgical treatment in which the patient typically has one entrance point, usually the navel, through which the surgeon performs practically all of the work.

Single-port abdominal surgery may prevent difficulties that frequently arise following conventional open abdominal surgery and even conventional laparoscopic surgery since it employs only one port, leaving little to no scarring.

The Operation

Patients must get general anaesthesia before undergoing laparoscopic single-site surgery. While the length of the operation varies from person to person, the typical duration is between two and four hours.

During LESS surgery, the entire procedure is carried out by a single abdominal incision, often placed at the belly button (Figure 5). To do surgery or kidney removal through this incision, the surgeon inserts a telescope (called a laparoscope) and several hand-held laparoscopic surgical equipment through a specially made gel diaphragm device put into the abdomen.

Post-operative care

Once you are awake and your vital signs have stabilised in the recovery area, you will be sent to your hospital room.

  • Postoperative Pain: Although most patients feel mild pain at their incision sites in the first few days following surgery, this is typically easily controlled by using intravenous pain medication, a patient-controlled anaesthetic pump, or oral pain medication administered by your nurse. In connection with the carbon dioxide gas inflating your abdomen during LESS surgery, you can suffer mild, transitory shoulder pain.

  • Any surgery can leave you feeling queasy, but those requiring general anaesthetic are more likely to experience it. This is typically temporary and is managed by medicine, which your nurse can give as needed.

  • Urinary Catheter: During surgery, while you are sleeping, a urinary catheter, also known as a foley catheter, is inserted to drain your bladder. This is done to keep track of your urine output during the first few days after surgery. When you can walk comfortably on the first postoperative day, your nurse will typically remove this. While your catheter is in place for a few days following surgery, it is not unusual to have a pee with a bloody tint.

  • Diet: After surgery, you will gradually transition from liquids to solids as tolerated. Your appetite may be subpar for up to a week after surgery, which is common.
