ERCP treatment in Hebbal, Bangalore

ERCP (Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangio Pancreatography) is a procedure to diagnose and treat gallstones, blockages in the bile ducts, or pancreatic cancer. An endoscope (a thin, lighted tube) is inserted into the mouth and throat and then into the stomach. The endoscope allows for viewing of the digestive tract on a video monitor.

The endoscope guides a needle through the stomach and into the bile ducts. A dye is injected into the bile ducts, allowing for better viewing of any abnormalities on the video monitor.

What is the purpose of the procedure?

Doctors utilise ERCP treatment in Hebbal, Bangalore to diagnose and treat various problems and tailor the procedure to each patient's needs. The following are some situations where ERCP is used,

Cancer, bile duct obstructions, and stones

Gallbladder issues, such as cholecystitis and gallstones (inflamed gallbladder).

Conditions involving the pancreas include pancreatitis (an inflamed, swollen pancreas), pancreatic cancer, pancreatic cysts, and pseudocysts.

Procedure

The ERCP procedure begins with a medication called conscious sedation to relax you and make you comfortable during the procedure. A local anaesthetic is injected into your backside to numb your lower abdomen, making it feel warm and numb but not painful during the procedure.

A guide wire is passed through your mouth into your bile duct or common bile duct (the tube that carries bile from your liver to your intestine). After the guide wire is in place, a long flexible endoscope (tube) is inserted down this guide wire into the bile ducts or common bile ducts so the doctor can see inside these structures.

The doctor then uses a tiny instrument called a wire mould to take CT or MRI images of the inside of your bile ducts or common bile duct. These pictures create detailed 3D models of your bile ducts or common bile duct, which can be viewed on a computer screen.

A special dye called cholangiography may be injected through a catheter placed into one of these ducts so that it can be seen on x-ray films as it travels through this area. This can help the doctor determine whether there are any blockages in your bile ducts or common bile duct.

Post Process

You'll need a ride home from someone else after the session. During the endoscopic process, your throat could get sore, and you must eat soft foods for a few days until the ache disappears.

After ERCP, bloating (swelling brought on by pumped-in air) and nausea are potential side effects (which are caused by anaesthesia). You should be able to resume regular activity the next day after your doctor gives the go-ahead for your return to work and regular activity.
