A graduate of the 1976 batch of the Armed Forces Medical College, he is a Gold Medallist across MBBS, MS, and MCh, reflecting sustained academic excellence alongside his clinical achievements. As a surgeon, he was conferred the Vishisht Seva Medal by the President of India in 1993 in recognition of performance that went beyond the call of duty, a distinction that underscores both his skill and commitment to patient care.

  • During his tenure with the Armed Forces, he played a pioneering role in initiating and advancing cadaver renal transplant programs as well as laparoscopic urology services, contributing significantly to the evolution of these disciplines in India. He is widely regarded as a highly skilled endourologist and has demonstrated the free-hand puncture technique in PCNL at numerous national and international workshops, earning recognition for both his surgical precision and teaching ability. He was among the earliest to introduce holmium laser enucleation of the prostate in North India in 1999 and subsequently pioneered Green laser vaporization of the prostate in India in 2003, with his Green laser resection technique being presented at the Asian Urology Conference in Delhi in 2004.

Currently serving as Chairman of Urology, Robotics, and Renal Transplant at Manipal Hospital, Gurgaon, he has performed over 4,000 renal transplants, placing him among the most experienced transplant surgeons in the region. His expertise extends beyond India, as he actively mentors transplant surgeons in Ghana, Nigeria, Sudan, Iraq, Mongolia, Kyrgyzstan, Afghanistan and Myanmar.
