  • Dr. Praveen Kumar B. S is an experienced pulmonologist in Bengaluru, currently practising as a Consultant – Pulmonary Medicine at Manipal Hospital Varthur Road. With more than 10 years of post-MD clinical experience, he provides comprehensive care for a wide spectrum of respiratory and critical care conditions. He is recognised for his expertise in diagnosing and treating asthma, COPD, tuberculosis, interstitial lung diseases, respiratory infections, sleep-related breathing disorders, chronic respiratory failure, and critically ill pulmonary cases requiring advanced bronchoscopic or ICU procedures.

  • Dr. Praveen completed his MBBS from A.J. Institute of Medical Sciences, Mangalore, followed by his MD in Pulmonary Medicine from Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, Belgaum, KLE University, where his academic work focused on drug resistance in tuberculosis. His early research and publications on TB drug-resistance patterns have contributed valuable insights toward combating multidrug-resistant tuberculosis, an ongoing public health challenge in India.

  • With over a decade of clinical expertise, he is highly skilled in both outpatient respiratory management and emergency pulmonary critical care. At Manipal Hospitals, he routinely manages complex respiratory conditions through medical therapy, interventional pulmonology, and ICU support. His procedural expertise includes bronchoscopy (BAL, biopsies, TBNA, TBLB), pigtail and ICD insertions, intrapleural fibrinolysis, pleurodesis, ultrasound-guided thoracentesis, and peripheral lung biopsies. He also performs lung ultrasound, point-of-care DVT scans, and advanced pulmonary function tests, including PFT, DLCO and FeNO interpretation, making him one of the few pulmonologists adept at both diagnostic imaging and therapeutic interventions. In addition to patient care, Dr. Praveen has served as Associate Professor and Assistant Professor at Vydehi Institute of Medical Sciences, training future pulmonologists and medical students in core respiratory medicine, research ethics, and critical care skills. His teaching roles have strengthened his patient counselling style, ensuring clarity, confidence, and shared decision-making for individuals and families navigating chronic respiratory conditions.

  • His professional involvement as a Fellow of the College of Chest Physicians (FCCP) and member of the European Respiratory Society reflects his commitment to international standards in pulmonary medicine. He continues to stay at the forefront of respiratory advancements through workshops on bronchoscopy, interventional pulmonology, mechanical ventilation, NIV therapy, thoracic ultrasound, and critical care protocols. Known for his calm communication and structured treatment planning, Dr. Praveen supports patients through lifestyle modification, rehabilitation, vaccination strategies, long-term oxygen therapy, and ongoing disease management to improve lung function and quality of life. His approach ensures continuity of care for chronic cases such as COPD, asthma, ILD, and bronchiectasis while providing expert management for acute respiratory emergencies. With his extensive ICU experience, interventional skills, and evidence-based respiratory care, Dr. Praveen Kumar B. S stands as a trusted pulmonologist at Manipal Hospitals, helping patients breathe easier through timely diagnosis, advanced treatment, and lifelong respiratory wellness.
