HOLEP Treatment in Sarjapur Road, Bangalore

HOLEP is a surgical procedure used to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). The procedure involves making two incisions in the prostate, which are then used to insert a laser that evaporates the excess tissue. This tissue is then removed through a suction device. The entire procedure takes about an hour, and patients typically spend one night in the hospital. The procedure is effective in relieving symptoms associated with BPH, such as urinary frequency and urgency, and can also improve urinary flow. There are typically no side effects, although there is a small risk of infection and bleeding.

Pre-procedure for HOLEPPrior to undergoing HOLEP, patients will typically have a pre-operative consultation with their surgeon. During this visit, the surgeon will review the patient's medical history and perform a physical examination. They will also discuss the risks and benefits of the procedure. Book an appointment to have the best treatment.

Patients should also have a urine test and complete blood work before HOLEP. Additionally, they may have a CT scan or ultrasound of the bladder to assess the size and location of the prostate. HOLEP is typically performed under general anaesthesia.

Procedure for HOLEP

  • The surgeon will make a small cut (incision) in the perineum (area between the scrotum and anus). It is usually done under general anaesthesia (patients would be asleep during surgery).

  • A cystoscope (a thin, tube-like instrument with a light and a camera) is inserted through the urethra into the bladder. The surgeon can see the inside of the bladder and the prostate.

  • The surgeon inserts a laser fibre through the cystoscope, breaking up the prostate tissue.

  • The surgeon removes the prostate tissue through the urethra. Visit our urology hospital in Bangalore for the best treatment.

  • The surgeon inserts a small tube (catheter) through the urethra into the bladder. The catheter drains urine from the bladder. The catheter is usually removed in 1 to 2 days.

  • The surgeon closes the incision in the perineum with stitches.

Post-Procedure

After HOLEP, patients will stay in the hospital for 1-2 nights. They will have a catheter in their bladder during this time. Most people will be able to go home with the catheter. In some cases, the catheter is removed before leaving the hospital.

Patients will be given instructions on how to care for the catheter. They will also be given instructions on how to care for themselves at home. It will include how to take care of the incisions and how to take care of their urinary system.
