What is the role of a periodontist?
Periodontists treat oral health issues affecting the periodontium (the tissues surrounding your teeth). Included in this are:

Periodontal maintenance
Periodontal maintenance involves cleaning your teeth. It's like going to the dentist for regular cleaning. A periodontist or hygienist will also check your gum health and measure the pockets around your teeth in addition to cleaning your teeth. Scaling and root planing (periodontal cleaning)
Deep dental cleaning is also known as scaling and root planing (SRP). The main difference between SRP and SRT is that SRP requires local anaesthesia to numb the gums. Hygienists can clean deep beneath your gum line, where bacteria hide. Also, plaque and bacteria will be discouraged from building up on the surfaces of your teeth roots. A periodontist treats gum disease in the early stages (mild) with scaling and root planing.

Gingival flap surgery

A bone and tissue bank is a joint for periodontists to obtain bone grafting material. Periodontists may use bone from other parts of your mouth.
Crown lengthening
A dental crown cannot be placed when a tooth breaks off near the gum line. You may need to remove some gum and bone tissue for the height to fit correctly.
Smile lift
When people smile, their gums cover part of their teeth. A smile lift is a procedure that can improve the appearance of a person's smile. Periodontists remove gums and a small amount of bone around affected teeth during this procedure. In addition to veneers, your periodontist may recommend a smile lift as a stand-alone procedure.
Frenectomy
A frenum connects one part of the body to another. Lingual and labial breaks are found in your mouth. The labial frenum connects lips and gums. The lingual frenum connects your tongue with your gums behind your lower front teeth. An overly tight frenum can sometimes occur. Gum recession and tongue-tying can result from this. Frenectomy allows your periodontist to release the frenum so that it is not too close.
