Dr. Janardhanan D is a highly skilled anaesthesiologist with specialised expertise in spine anaesthesia and intraoperative neuromonitoring. He is currently practising as an Associate Consultant in the Department of Spine Anaesthesiology, where he plays a critical role in ensuring safe and effective anaesthetic management for complex spine surgeries. With a strong academic background that includes MBBS and MD in Anaesthesiology, along with advanced training in neuroanaesthesia and neurocritical care, Dr. Janardhanan brings a focused and highly specialised approach to perioperative patient care.
Over the course of his clinical practice, he has developed significant expertise in the perioperative management of complex spine procedures. His work involves anaesthetic planning and execution for a wide range of surgeries, including deformity corrections, tumour resections, trauma cases, and minimally invasive spine procedures. His ability to tailor anaesthesia protocols based on surgical complexity and patient condition contributes to improved surgical precision and patient safety.
A key area of Dr. Janardhanan’s expertise lies in intraoperative neuromonitoring, an advanced technique used to assess the functional integrity of neural pathways during spine surgery. He is experienced in monitoring modalities such as motor evoked potentials (MEPs), somatosensory evoked potentials (SSEPs), and electromyography (EMG). His proficiency in these techniques enables early detection of potential neurological compromise during surgery, allowing timely intervention and significantly reducing the risk of postoperative neurological deficits.
Dr. Janardhanan is also well-versed in the anaesthetic management of high-risk spine cases, including scoliosis surgeries and complex deformity corrections. These procedures require meticulous planning, haemodynamic stability, and continuous monitoring, all of which he handles with precision and expertise. His training in neurocritical care further strengthens his ability to manage patients in the perioperative and immediate postoperative phases, ensuring continuity of care and optimal recovery outcomes.
In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Janardhanan is actively involved in academic and research activities. He has presented a free paper titled “Decreased Amplitude of Motor Evoked Potentials with Magnesium Sulphate: A Case Series” at ISNACC 2025, highlighting his interest in advancing neuromonitoring practices. He has also published a case report on “Isoelectric Electroencephalogram during a Planned Microsurgical Clipping of Ruptured Anterior Communicating Artery Aneurysm”, reflecting his engagement in complex neuroanaesthesia scenarios and contribution to scientific literature.
He is a lifetime member of the Indian Society of Neuroanaesthesiology and Critical Care (ISNACC), which keeps him aligned with the latest developments and best practices in the field. Known for his calm, detail-oriented, and patient-centric approach, Dr. Janardhanan ensures clear communication and coordinated care with surgical teams, contributing to seamless operative workflows.
Fluent in English, Tamil, Kannada, and Hindi, he is able to effectively communicate with a diverse patient population, ensuring comfort and clarity throughout the treatment journey. With his specialised expertise in neuroanaesthesia, spine anaesthesia, and intraoperative neuromonitoring, Dr. Janardhanan D continues to play a vital role in delivering safe, precise, and advanced care for complex spine surgeries.
