Gurgaon: Concentration of nitrogen dioxide (NO2) -- a pollutant emitted by burning fuel in vehicles, power plants and industries – exceeded the maximum safe limit by three times in the past two days. Data from the Gwal Pahari air quality monitoring station showed that the average NO2 for eight hours was 133µg/m³ on Thursday and 123µg/m³ on Friday. In India, the safe limit for exposure to NO2 is 40µg/m³. The maximum concentration considered safe by the World Health Organisation is even lower, at 25 µg/m³.

In today’s fast-paced lifestyle, headaches are often dismissed as a result of stress, screen time, or irregular sleep. However, what many overlook is that a persistent headache could be an early symptom of hypertension, commonly known as high blood pressure, a condition that affects one in three adults in India and often goes undiagnosed. Hypertension, also known as high blood pressure, usually does not have any symptoms till it becomes dangerously high. However, when it does, you may have a throbbing headache, which doctors say you must not ignore.
“Hypertension is the force with which blood flows in the arteries of the brain. And that force leads to hypertension, which indirectly causes headaches,” Dr. Aparna Gupta, Consultant-Neurologist, Indian Spinal Injuries Centre, told Times Now.

Finding a lump on your skin can be unsettling. Although most lumps are benign lipomas or cysts, others can indicate serious diseases, including cancer. In India, the most prevalent form of cancer among women is breast cancer, responsible for about 14% of all cancers among Indian women. Alarmingly, one in every twenty-eight Indian women is likely to develop breast cancer during her lifetime, with the urban incidence higher than the rural counterpart. Early detection improves outcomes. Over 50% of Indian women are diagnosed at stage 3 or 4, where treatment becomes more challenging.

Irregular heartbeat is commonly known as heart arrhythmia. This occurs when the heart's electrical signals that control the heartbeat become disrupted.
In this condition, the heart may beat too fast, too slow, or irregularly — and it can have serious consequences.
Some types of cardiac arrhythmias are not dangerous, but some can be life-threatening.
Therefore, identifying the warning signs in time is very important.
Dr. Loveneesh Vijh, Consultant Electrophysiologist – Cardiology, Manipal Hospital, Ghaziabad, says that with timely diagnosis and proper treatment, even severe arrhythmias can be managed effectively.
He said that pacemakers or implantable defibrillators help manage dangerous arrhythmias and prevent sudden cardiac arrest. Lifestyle changes like reducing alcohol, smoking, stress, and staying physically active also help prevent arrhythmias and improve heart health.

For most new mothers, a Caesarean section (C-section) becomes necessary for different reasons during pregnancy or labour. While this surgical procedure helps deliver babies safely, it comes with its own set of recovery challenges. Unlike vaginal delivery, where the recovery process takes a shorter time, C-section recovery demands patience and careful attention.

When Covid-19 confined us indoors and pushed us to spend more time in front of digital screens, it also worsened our eye health.
India has millions of children who have suffered from reduced outdoor exposure due to online classes, especially in urban areas. That, combined with prolonged screen exposure, has led to an increase in myopia (short-sightedness) among children.
As per a study, the prevalence of myopia in India is expected to rise from 8.5% in 2000 to 19.4% in 2030 and 31.9% in 2050. India is projected to have 275 million people with myopia by 2030.
A review of 179 studies published in the peer-reviewed journal Ophthalmology in 2016 pointed to a similar trend, noting that myopia would affect 4.758 billion people by 2050 — about half the world’s population — and 10% of the world’s population (938 million) would be at significant risk of developing permanent blindness.
