  • Having served as a Professor of Pathology at two leading medical institutions, Dr Sumana has made substantial contributions to medical education, postgraduate training and the advancement of diagnostic standards.  As Laboratory director at one of these institutions, she was instrumental in enhancing diagnostic operations, implementing cutting-edge diagnostic tests, and rigorous standardisation of pre-analytical and analytical processes, thereby strengthening diagnostic accuracy and reproducibility.

  • Her contributions extend beyond clinical practice, encompassing research and education. She has served as Program Officer for the Youth Red Cross Unit, promoting student participation in  public health initiatives. She has led impactful breast cancer awareness programmes aimed at promoting early detection and community education.  She has served on the Scientific Review Committee, evaluating research proposals for scientific merit and biostatistical rigour.  Dr Sumana’s commitment to scholarship is further reflected in her ongoing work as a peer reviewer for several national and international scientific journals, contributing to the integrity of biomedical literature. 

  • A key highlight of Dr Sumana’s research contribution is the study on Galectin-3 expression in thyroid neoplasms, which has received international recognition. This study has been cited in the scholarly book “Galectins in Cancer and Translational Medicine” edited by Prof. Armando Bartolazzi and is also referenced in the Mayo Clinic Laboratories Test Catalogue, underscoring its clinical and translational impact. 

  • Dr Sumana has been actively supporting and guiding postgraduate career development and academic advancement. She has written recommendations via the Association of American Medical colleges (AAMC) for residency placements, with students successfully securing positions in U.S. medical schools.  Dr Sumana remains committed to advancing pathology through diagnostic excellence and the mentorship of future leaders in the field.
