Robotic Treatment of Vesicovaginal Fistula | Dr. Ali | Manipal Hospital Old Airport Road

In this video, Mrs. Fatuma Chawanda Phiri from Malawi shares her journey of overcoming a complex medical condition – Vesicovaginal Fistula, which had severely affected her daily life. After 4 unsuccessful surgeries in her hometown, she was referred to Manipal Hospital Old Airport Road, Bengaluru, where she was treated by Dr. Mohammed Shahid Ali, Consultant - Uro-Oncology Robotic Surgery and Renal Transplantation. Fatuma developed this condition following a hysterectomy for uterine fibroids. She was left with a persistent bladder leak and a fistula that failed to heal despite multiple interventions, leaving her dependent on a catheter for nearly 9 months. Devastated and emotionally exhausted, she came to India in the hope of a final solution. Using advanced imaging, such as ultrasound, CT scan, and cystoscopy, Dr. Mohammed Shahid Ali and his team precisely located the fistula. They offered her a robotic vesicovaginal fistula repair, using omental fat to reinforce the repair site. Within 2 weeks, the suture lines had healed successfully, and she was finally free from the catheter. Fatuma expresses her heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Ali, his team, and the hospital, saying the outcome felt like waking from a nightmare.
