Coma: Understanding the Condition | Dr. Sunil Karanth | Manipal Hospital Old Airport Road

A coma is a state of deep unconsciousness and is usually a symptom of an underlying medical condition rather than a disease itself. Causes may include stroke, brain hemorrhage, severe infections, traumatic injuries, metabolic imbalances, kidney or liver failure, and tropical illnesses such as dengue or malaria. While coma indicates serious illness, it is important to note that in most cases, over 80%, it can be reversed with timely diagnosis, ICU support, and appropriate treatment of the underlying cause.
