Peritoneal Dialysis Procedure in Bangalore

Brief Overview of Peritoneal Dialysis

When your kidneys are no longer able to efficiently remove waste from your blood, you can have peritoneal dialysis. Compared to hemodialysis, which is a more popular blood-filtering method, this process cleanses the blood uniquely.

How Does Peritoneal Dialysis Work?

Your stomach receives a soft plastic tube (catheter) during surgery. Through this catheter, a sterile cleansing fluid is inserted into your stomach. The fluid exits your body through the catheter when filtering has been completed.

Types of Peritoneal Dialysis

Peritoneal dialysis have two types,

1. Continuous Ambulatory Peritoneal Dialysis (CAPD)

2. Ambulatory Peritoneal Dialysis (APD)

Each receives the same fundamental care. However, each procedure is unique due to the number of treatments and how they are carried out. Visit our Nephrology center in Yeshwanthpur, Bangalore to have the best treatment.

CAPD

CAPD is performed "continuously," without the use of a machine, and as you go about your daily activities like work or school. You do the procedure by putting two quarts or so of cleansing liquid into your stomach and then draining it. This is accomplished by attaching a plastic bag filled with cleansing liquid to the tube in your stomach. Gravity will draw the liquid into your stomach when you lift the plastic bag to shoulder height. The plastic bag is taken out and discarded after becoming empty.

The fluid, which has now had wastes removed from your blood after an interchange (putting in and taking out the fluid) is complete, is drained from your abdomen and thrown away. In a 24-hour period, this procedure is typically carried out three, four, or five times when you are awake and engaged in daily activities. Each cycle lasts between 30 and 40 minutes. Some patients prefer to conduct their exchanges before bed and during meals.

APD

A machine (a cycler) distributes the cleansing solution for you and then empties it for you, which is how APD differs from CAPD. Typically, the procedure is carried out at night when you sleep. A person can perform an exchange throughout the day, and the machine frequently fills their stomach with dialysate at the start of the day. The term continuous cycling peritoneal dialysis, or CCPD, is another moniker for this method.

To determine which approach is most suitable for them, a person can talk through the choices with a healthcare practitioner.

What Benefits and Drawbacks Come With Peritoneal Dialysis?

When compared to hemodialysis, some clinicians believe that CAPD and APD have a number of advantages. Continuous dialysis makes it easier to control surplus fluid, which could lessen the strain on the blood vessels and the heart. You can consume more food and take fewer drugs. You can complete more of your everyday tasks, and working or travelling is simpler. Book an appointment at our multi-specialty hospital today.

But for certain patients, peritoneal dialysis might not be the best option. Some people's abdomens or bellies may render peritoneal dialysis treatments challenging or impossible, particularly those who are extremely obese or have had several past abdominal procedures.

With the right measures, peritonitis, an infection of the abdomen, should only occur in rare cases. Consider the fact that peritoneal dialysis is typically a daily process, comparable to the functioning of the kidney, and may be gentler regarding fluid removal from the body when choosing the type of therapy. It has been established that peritoneal dialysis is just as satisfactory as hemodialy
