Gastrointestinal Treatment in Goa

Pre Procedure

  • The patient is advised to be on an empty stomach with a minimum of 6-8 hours of fasting. 

  • Patients having any underlying health conditions must inform the doctor immediately.

  • Women who are pregnant or think they might be pregnant must inform the doctor about their condition.

  • Before the procedure, admission for a day is needed for observation.

  • The patient will have to sign a consent form before the test.

  • Eye glasses, dentures and contact lenses must be removed as they might interfere with the procedure.

  • The patient will be given a hospital gown and shifted to a private room.

 During Procedure

  • The procedure generally lasts for 2-3 hours and it is performed by a doctor who is assisted by a nurse.

  • A mouth guard will be given to the patient to ensure that their teeth remains protected throughout the procedure. 

  • A cannula will be placed for injecting IV medications and fluids. 

  • The patient will be given anaesthesia either through injection or inhalation. 

  • The doctor will put an endoscope, which is a bended lighted tube, through the mouth into the duodenum (the first part of the small intestine) and the stomach to look into the pancreas and bile ducts

 Post Procedure

  • The patient can consume foods after a few hours. 

  • Reports will be shared with the patient after 2 hours post the completion of the procedure.
