Higher lifetime exposure to estrogen is the major cause of breast cancer. For example, if your period started at a younger age or you go through menopause at a later age, then this increases the risk of breast cancer.
The risk factors for having breast cancer include:
A family history of breast cancer
Beginning menopause at an older age
Having a child at an older age - Having a child after the age of 30, increases the chances of breast cancer by 30%
Having never been pregnant
Postmenopausal hormone therapy
