High Fever Treatment in Mysore

The most common medical condition seen among adults and children across various age groups is Fever or High Fever. Fever is generally the higher-than-normal body temperature indicating any infection or abnormality in your body. While a fever is treated at home by following specific tips, it is not the case with a high fever. It is considered a high fever when your body temperature is more than 102°F (38.8°C). In most cases, the high temperature indicates the body’s natural defence mechanism in fighting infection. However, this may not always be the case when the fever doesn’t go away even after a few days.

Causes

While children tend to have slightly higher body temperature than adults, fever in all age groups can be a symptom of any common existing illnesses such as:

  • UTIs (urinary tract infections)

  • Strep throat

  • Ear pain or infection

  • Bronchitis

  • Mononucleosis

  • Cold or flu

Fever should not be confused with a mere high body temperature as a person’s body temperature varies throughout the day based on daily normal activities and emotions such as heavy clothing, food, medications, menstrual cycle, stress, exercise, excitement, and more. Consult with our experts to have the best treatment.

Diagnosis

While the simple and effective way to diagnose fever at home is measuring the body temperature with a thermometer inserted orally, axillary (under the arm), or rectally and using certain medications, it may not always be the case. You have to immediately talk to your doctor to get the proper diagnosis and to know the underlying cause of the fever. Fever may be a symptom of malaria or dengue infection, COVID-19 symptoms, or fever of unknown origin, such as chronic infection, cancer, or connective tissue disorder.

Treatment

Following simple tips like consuming lots of fluids and getting plenty of rest can help treat mild fever (101°F or less). Certain over-the-counter drugs such as aspirin, ibuprofen, naproxen, and acetaminophen can also help treat higher body temperature. Your doctor may advise antibiotics in case of strep throat and other bacterial infections. Doctors recommend the best course of treatment and medication based on your age, physical and medical condition, and the cause of the fever. For children under age 17, aspirin may cause Reye's syndrome. Visit our internal medicine hospital in Mysore for the best treatment.
