Overview:

  • An echocardiogram is an ultrasound of the heart. It uses standard 2D, 3D and Doppler ultrasound to create images of the heart. The test does not involve any radiation. 

Pre Procedure:

  • There are no specific instructions to be followed before the procedure.
  • You may avoid wearing metallic ornaments/accessories/belt etc. 

During Procedure: 

  • You are settled comfortably in an area where your privacy is respected throughout the procedure. You will be given a hospital gown to change into.
  • You will also have to remove accessories /ornaments/purse/belt etc.
  • Mobile phones should be on silent mode.
  • The technologist will use an ultrasound probe with the conducting gel on your chest, stomach and neck to get different views of the heart. In the case of female patients, the procedure is performed only by a female technologist.
  • The technologist will then remove the electrodes and wipe off the excess gel with tissues. 
  • The procedure takes approximately 15 minutes and is completely painless.  

Post Procedure:

  • Post-procedure, you may proceed with your routine activities. 
  • Reports will be issued within 30 minutes post-procedure at the reception.
