How it works
In an in-person session, the auditory-verbal therapist creates activities for the child's listening and spoken language goals, and demonstrates them for the parents, who are then given control of these activities. The therapist has a coaching position and instructs the parents on how to connect with their kid to promote listening and spoken language.
During an AVT session performed over phonecall, the therapist takes great care to explain to the parent exactly how to get ready for, introduce, and engage in an activity with their kid. The therapist records the child's performance, and discusses with the parent about the child's development after each session.
