Dr. Dhananjaya I Bhat is a highly experienced neurosurgeon in Kanakapura Road, Bangalore. He is currently practising as a Consultant – Neurosurgery at Manipal Hospital Kanakapura Road. With over 18+ years of clinical, academic, and surgical expertise, Dr. Bhat is widely respected for his comprehensive approach to complex brain, spine, and peripheral nerve disorders. His practice is guided by precision, innovation, and a strong commitment to patient-centred neurological care.
Dr. Bhat holds an MBBS degree followed by an M.Ch in Neurosurgery, with advanced training from one of India’s premier neuroscience institutions. Over the course of his career, he has developed deep expertise across the full spectrum of neurosurgery, with particular strengths in brain tumour surgery, skull base surgeries, neurotrauma, endoscopic brain surgeries, vascular neurosurgery, spinal surgery, and peripheral nerve interventions. His ability to manage high-risk and technically demanding cases has made him a trusted referral specialist for complex neurological conditions.
Clinically, Dr. Bhat is recognised for his versatility and surgical depth. He routinely manages complex cranial pathologies, minimally invasive spine surgeries, endoscopic neurosurgical procedures, vascular lesions, and peripheral nerve injuries. A key area of specialised interest is Hirayama Disease, a rare cervical spinal disorder, where he has been actively involved in developing and refining surgical management strategies. His experience in this field has contributed to improved functional outcomes for patients with this challenging condition.
In addition to clinical practice, Dr. Bhat has a strong academic and research background. He has played an active role in teaching and mentoring neurosurgical trainees, guiding postgraduate students, and contributing to academic evaluation and curriculum development. His academic philosophy centres on integrating clinical excellence with research-driven learning to continuously improve standards of neurosurgical care.
Dr. Bhat’s research interests span peripheral nerve regeneration, brachial plexus injuries, lumbar disc degeneration, and neurovascular disorders. He has been involved in multidisciplinary research collaborations with specialists in neurology, genetics, neurochemistry, and imaging sciences. His work in blast-induced neurotrauma, stem cell–based nerve repair, and molecular studies of neurological disorders reflects his commitment to advancing neurosurgical science beyond the operating theatre.
His contributions to research and innovation have been recognised through prestigious national and international awards, including honours for original work in neurotrauma and peripheral nerve injury research, as well as academic fellowships that enabled exposure to global trauma and neurosurgical practices. These recognitions highlight his role as both a clinician and an academic contributor to the field.
Known for his calm demeanour and analytical approach, Dr. Bhat prioritises clear communication, ethical decision-making, and personalised treatment planning. He ensures that patients and families fully understand their diagnosis, treatment options, and expected outcomes. Fluent in English and Kannada, he fosters trust and reassurance during what are often emotionally challenging clinical journeys.
