Childbirth is the process of delivering a baby from the uterus through the vagina. It is a natural process, but it can be challenging and painful. There are many different ways to give birth, and the best method for you will depend on your individual circumstances.

  1. Normal delivery is the most common type of childbirth. It occurs when the baby is born vaginally, without any complications. Normal delivery can be divided into 3 stages: Early labor, Active labor, and Delivery of the placenta.
  2. C-section is a surgical procedure to deliver a baby. It is performed when there are complications with the pregnancy or labor, or when the mother or baby is at risk. C-sections can be scheduled in advance or performed as an emergency.
  3. VBAC stands for vaginal birth after cesarean. It is when a woman who has had a previous C-section delivers her next baby vaginally. VBAC is a safe and effective option for many women, but it is important to discuss it with your doctor to make sure it is right for you.
  4. Painless delivery is a childbirth method that aims to reduce pain and discomfort. There are many different methods of painless delivery, including: Epidural anesthesia, Nitrous oxide, Acupuncture, and sometimes, Hypnosis. The best way to deliver your baby is the way that is safest for you and your baby. Talk to your doctor about your options and choose the method that is right for you.

FAQs

The multi-speciality Maternity Care unit at Manipal Hospital Whitefield offers a comprehensive range of services, including the following:
● Prenatal care
● High-risk pregnancy management
● Foetal medicine
● Labour and delivery
● Postnatal care
● Neonatal intensive care

Foetal medication is advised for women who have had high-risk pregnancies in the past, as well as those who have had unanticipated health problems during their pregnancy or who have chronic health disorders. It may also be advised for women over the age of 35 or women carrying multiple foetuses.

Gentle exercise like walking or climbing stairs can be started as soon as possible after giving birth, provided you had an uncomplicated delivery and your doctor advises it is safe.

The most recommended exercises after childbirth include brisk walking, swimming, aqua aerobics, yoga, Pilates, low-impact aerobic workouts, lightweight training, and cycling. However, it is necessary to discuss with your doctor if you wish to begin any postnatal exercise regimen.

Lactating mothers should opt for a balanced diet with protein-rich foods like eggs, fish, meat, and dairy. Also, incorporating beans, nuts, seeds, and various fruits and vegetables can provide essential nutrients for both the mother and the breastfeeding baby.

The standard frequency for prenatal examinations is once per month for the first two trimesters, once every two weeks for the third trimester, and once per week for the last few weeks of pregnancy. The frequency of visiting your maternity care specialist in Whitefield may change based on unique conditions.
