Treatment and Procedures
Endoscopic Spine Surgery represents the most advanced evolution of minimally invasive spine care and is often referred to as Ultra-Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery. In this technique, surgery is performed through skin incisions as small as 5–8 millimetres using a high-definition spinal endoscope with an in-built camera and light source. The endoscope provides a clear, magnified view of the spinal nerves and pathology directly on a screen, enabling extremely precise surgery. Unlike conventional or even standard minimally invasive procedures, endoscopic spine surgery causes minimal to near-zero muscle injury, as it works through natural tissue planes without muscle cutting or retraction. Many procedures can be safely performed under regional or local anaesthesia with sedation, making this approach particularly suitable for elderly patients or those with medical comorbidities. Patients typically experience very little post-operative pain, minimal blood loss, and rapid recovery, often walking within hours of surgery and returning home the same day.

FAQs
These techniques avoid large cuts and extensive muscle damage seen in open surgery. As a result, patients experience less pain, minimal blood loss, smaller scars, and faster recovery.
Not all spinal conditions require or are suitable for these approaches. The choice of surgery depends on the diagnosis, severity of disease, spinal anatomy, and individual patient factors. A detailed clinical evaluation is essential.
Yes. When appropriately indicated and expertly performed, these techniques provide durable, longterm symptom relief and improved quality of life.
In most cases, prolonged bed rest is not required. Patients are encouraged to move early to promote healing and prevent complications.
Many patients are able to stand and walk within a few hours of surgery under medical supervision, supporting faster recovery and better outcomes.
FAQs
A kidney biopsy is a procedure where a small sample of kidney tissue is taken for examination under a microscope. It's a crucial diagnostic tool used to determine the underlying cause of kidney problems. At Manipal Hospitals, kidney biopsies are performed as outpatient procedures, often guided by ultrasound or CT scans for precision.
Hemodialysis is a treatment that filters waste products and excess fluid from the blood when kidneys are no longer functioning properly. This life-saving procedure involves passing the patient's blood through a dialyzer, which acts as an artificial kidney, to remove impurities
Kidney transplantation is a surgical procedure to replace a damaged kidney with a healthy one from a donor. It offers patients with end-stage kidney disease a chance to improve their quality of life. Manipal Hospitals has a strong track record in kidney transplantation, with a dedicated team of experts. Eligibility for a transplant depends on various factors, including overall health, blood type, and the severity of kidney disease.
Laparoscopic donor nephrectomy is a minimally invasive surgical procedure to remove a healthy kidney from a living donor for transplantation. It involves using small incisions and specialized instruments to extract the kidney.
